Featuring local musician and historian Vic Rivera and Simón Gómez.

Join the Free Zoom series pairing an RSO musician with a local musician for a lively conversation!

The fourth in the 4-part series will feature local musician and historian Vic Rivera and RSO musician Simón Gómez on Wednesday, May 26  from 6-7 pm in a discussion about Latino music past and present in Rockford.

Local musician and historian Vic Rivera and his family have been involved in making music in Rockford since they arrived from Mexico in the 1970s. During the pandemic, Vic has been collecting and digitizing Latino music made and recorded in Rockford throughout many decades. In this discussion with Columbian-born RSO Principal Timpanist Simón Gómez we will listen to music, learn more about Latin rhythms and the countries they come from, and learn about the past and current culture of Latino music in Rockford.

This session is free to attend. Questions will be open to attendees at the conclusion.

This free program is made possible in part by a grant from the Rockford Area Arts Council.
