RSO/RVC Concerto Competition
Rockford Symphony Orchestra and Rock Valley College collaborate on an annual concerto competition targeting young musicians from a 50 mile radius of Rockford. The date for the 2009 competition is Saturday, October 24. 2009.
Cash prizes are awarded for the top three competitors and the First Prize winner is offered an opportunity to perform with the Rockford Symphony Youth Orchestra in the Spring 2010 concert.
The Rockford Symphony Orchestra and Rock Valley College are pleased to announce the winners of the 2009 Concerto Competition:
First Prize, Genevieve Smelser, violin of DeKalb, IL
Second Prize, Rachel Stenzel, violin of Holiday Hills, IL
Third Prize, Thomas Reith, piano of Rockford, IL
As first prize winner, Ms. Smelser will perform her competition piece, the first movement of Edward Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnole with the RSYO on the Spring Concert, Sunday April 25 at Hononegah High School’s Performing Arts Center.
